Tadabbur-e-Qur’an by Amin Ahsan Islahi invites the reader to ponder and reflect on the message of the Qur’an. It is based on the principle of nazm of coherence and refutes the oft-repeated allegation the Holy Book lacks order and continuity. Amin Ahsan Islahi was born in 1904 in Azamgarh, India. There, he was a student, and later a long-serving teacher at the Madrasatul Islah which specialized in Arabic and Quranic Studies. A leading Islamic scholar who made Pakistan his home, he was able to draw on what he learned from his own teacher, Imam Hamiduddin Farahi combining this with a deep understanding of the Arabic language and startlingly original and independent insights. First published in Urdu in 1967, this translation will inspire and reinspire students of the Qur’an who rely on the English language in accessing Islamic source material. Islahi died in Lahore in 1967. The present volume covers the first two chapters of the Qur’an, Surah al-Fatihah and Surah al-Baqarah. It serves as an important resource for students of the Qur’an because its contents are structured into logical sections and subsections with respect to theme and content. Each portion can thus be studied on a week-by-week or other regular basis in a systematic manner. The whole approach is to welcome enquiring and questioning minds to engage with the message of the Qur’an.
